Quick introduction, my mother’s name is Cicily and I use one word to describe her; Caring. This is simply how I arrived at the Cicily Cares blog. Cicily Cares is also the name of our company, a company whose mission is to create innovative solutions for children and young adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.
My name is Carol Taylor-Moore and I am the president and CEO of Cicily Cares, and if you are like me, and you have a child with special needs, there are crucial questions on your mind every single day. For Example, do you worry that your child does not have enough resources to be the best he/she can be right now? How about tomorrow? Or the unforeseeable future? Do you ever wonder why it is so hard to get help?
In my 24 year journey with my daughter Tifannie, I have found that the ‘why’ comes down to one thing, RESOURCE(s). Is it available? Can we access it? Can we pay for it? And is it enough? Basic resources that are readily available to other parents are not always easily accessible to parents of children with special needs. Again you may ask why? The answer is simple, our children are different and they have unique needs. However, these needs are not always addressed in the programs and resources that are available in the communities in which we live.
To struggle to find the right doctor’s office, nail salon, hairstylist, school, even church, gives voice to the complexity of the issues we face every day. Speaking from experience, this is a deeply challenging and frustrating position to be in.
